Dambulla, July 19 (Tezzbuzz). The Indian women's cricket team started their campaign with a win by defeating Pakistan by 7 wickets in their first match of the Asia Cup 2024.
Chasing the target of 109 runs, Shafali Verma and Smriti Mandhana gave a good start to the Indian team and added 57 runs in the power play. Both of them continued to bat well and took India's score to 85 runs in 9.2 overs. At this score, Mandhana was dismissed by Saida Arub Shah, giving India the first blow. Mandhana scored 45 runs with the help of 9 fours in 31 balls. After Mandhana was dismissed, Shafali also returned to the pavilion on a score of 100 after scoring 40 runs. She was bowled by Arub Shah. Shafali faced 29 balls and hit 6 fours and 1 six. In the 13th over, at a total score of 102, Dayalan Hemalatha also became the victim of Nashra Sandhu by scoring 14 runs with the help of 3 fours in 11 balls.
After this, captain Harampreet Kaur (not out) and Jemima (not out) did not allow any further loss and scored 112 runs for 3 wickets in 14.1 overs and gave India a victory by 7 wickets. Jemima not only gave India victory by hitting a four but also completed 2 thousand runs in T20I. For Pakistan, Arub Shah took 2 wickets and Nashra Sandhu took 1 wicket.
Pakistan team was all out for 108 runs in 19.2 overs
Earlier, thanks to the brilliant performance of Indian bowlers, especially Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh, India bundled out Pakistan for just 108 runs in 19.2 overs in their first match of the Women's Asia Cup campaign in Dambulla on Friday.
Batting first, Pakistan had a poor start. Fast bowler Pooja Vastrakar dismissed Gul Ferokkha (5) in the second over, with captain Harmanpreet Kaur taking a brilliant catch. Pakistan were 9/1 in 1.4 overs.
Muniba Ali and Sidra Amin tried to bring the team back by hitting some boundaries against the Indian fast bowling attack, but their batting did not last long and Jemimah Rodrigues took a brilliant catch in the cover region to give Vastrakar her second wicket. Muniba was out after scoring 11 runs with the help of two fours in 11 balls. Pakistan's score was 26/2 in 3.5 overs.
Amin and Alia Riaz kept Pakistan safe for the remainder of the powerplay as they reached 37 for 2 in six overs with Amin (15*) and Riaz (5*) remaining unbeaten.
Spinner Shreyanka Patil then ended their partnership before it could flourish when Jemimah took another brilliant catch at mid-wicket to dismiss Riaz (6). Pakistan were 41/3 in 7.5 overs.
Amin then pulled off a superb reverse sweep to the short third region for four to take Pakistan to 50 in 9.2 overs.
Pakistan, which had lost 3 wickets for 53 runs in 10 overs, lost wickets continuously thereafter and the entire team was all out for 108 runs in 19.2 overs. For Pakistan, Fatima scored unbeaten 22 runs in 16 balls with the help of 1 four and 2 sixes. Apart from Fatima, Tuba Hasan also scored 22 runs, while Sidra Amin scored 25 runs. For India, Deepti (3/20), Renuka (2/14), Shreyanka (2/14) and Pooja (2/31) took 2 wickets each.
