Gautam Gambhir, the new head coach of the Indian team, has answered many questions in his first press conference before leaving for the Sri Lanka tour. He has supported captain Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the ODI World Cup 2027, which surprised everyone. Gambhir said that both of them still have a lot of cricket left and if they maintain their fitness, they can play in the next ODI World Cup.
Rohit and Kohli announced their retirement from T20 international cricket after India's victory in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa. However, both players will continue to play other formats of the game. Gambhir feels that Rohit and Virat's ability to perform in big tournaments will be crucial for the country in the upcoming Australia tour and next year's Champions Trophy.
Gambhir said in the press conference, “I think they have shown what they can do on the big stage. Whether it is the T20 World Cup or the 50-over World Cup, one thing I can say very clearly is that both those players have a lot of cricket left in them.
“If they can maintain their fitness, they can also play the 2027 ODI World Cup. But this is a very personal decision.” The 2027 ODI World Cup will be played in South Africa. South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will jointly host the tournament.
