Dehradun: The Uttarakhand government may bring the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) into force in Uttarakhand on November 9, which marks the state foundation day. The state government hopes to receive the reports from the three sub-committees, which have been formed to examine various aspects of the UCC before its implementation in the hill state.
CM reviewed the preparation for implementation of the UCC
On Monday, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami held a meeting with officials and reviewed the state government’s preparation to implement the UCC. The CM Dhami directed the officials to give final shape to the procedures and rules required for the implementation of the UCC in a timely manner.
Departments concerned to do their prior homework for the implementation of UCC
All the departments, which have their roles in the implementation of UCC, should also do their prior homework at the earliest possible, CM Dhami further directed. The three sub-committees, which are meant to ensure proper execution of the provisions of the UCC, are also expected to complete their tasks within a certain timeframe.
Fast completion of training programme to be held at different levels
Another focus of the state government is on the fast completion of the training programme to be held at different levels. The government wants to get properly examined various aspects of the UCC before bringing it into force. The government is also under plan to start an awareness programme to make people aware of the UCC and the departments concerned have been asked to coordinate with each in this regard.
Three sub-committees to complete their tasks before September 31
Former chief secretary Shatrughna Prasad Singh, who heads the committee to prepare the draft rules for UCC, has communicated to the state government about the formation of three sub-committees. The sub-committee, which is meant to give proper shape to the rules, has so far held 43 meetings and this sub-committee is expected to submit its final report by the end of August 31, 2024. Another sub-committee, which is formed for ease and transparency in the implementation of rules, has held its 20 meetings and it is expected to submit its report by the end of August 31, 2024. The third sub-committee, formed for capacity development and training, is all set to submit its final report by the end of September 31, 2024.
UCC bill was passed by the state assembly on February 7
Earlier on February 22, 2022, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had made a poll promise to introduce the UCC in the state government. After the formation of his government, CM Dhami constituted a committee to prepare the draft for the new law. Subsequently, Uttarakhand passed the UCC bill on February 7.
