Washington
US National Security Adviser (NSA) Jake Sullivan has said that discussions with India regarding allegations of a plot to assassinate Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannu have been 'respectful' and 'effective' as it is happening behind closed doors. The plot claimed the alleged involvement of an Indian government official. In November last year, US federal prosecutors charged Indian national Nikhil Gupta with working in collusion with an Indian government employee in a failed plot to assassinate Gurpatwant Singh Pannu in New York.
Arrest of Gupta from Czech Republic
Gupta was arrested in the Czech Republic in June last year and was extradited to the US on June 14. Sullivan said, “We have had constructive talks with India on this issue. We have made it clear what our position is on this and what we want to see. I think this (talk) has been respectful and effective because it is happening behind closed doors.”
distance from public information
Sullivan said this at the 'Aspen Security Forum' in Colorado on Friday in response to a question about the allegations related to the attempt to assassinate Pannu. India has denied the allegations but has formed an internal investigation team to investigate it. Regarding the talks with India, Sullivan said, 'I don't think there is much value in talking publicly about the nature of that conversation. This is a sensitive issue. We are working on it. We have had a constructive conversation with India on this issue.'
