New Delhi. Amidst the trainee IAS Pooja Khedkar controversy, Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Chairman Manoj Soni has suddenly resigned from his post. Soni was sworn in as UPSC Chairman on 16 May 2023 and his term was to end on 15 May 2029. At the same time, the reason for Manoj Soni's resignation is being said to be personal reasons.
According to media reports, UPSC chairman Manoj Soni reportedly submitted his resignation to President Draupadi Murmu about a month ago. However, it is not clear whether it will be accepted or not.
Eminent educationist Soni has held the post of VC of Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Open University (BAOU), Gujarat from 2009 to 2015. He took over as a member of the UPSC Commission on 28 June 2017.
It is worth mentioning that UPSC plays an important role in conducting various examinations on behalf of the central government, including civil service examinations. This institution usually recommends candidates for prestigious posts in IAS, IFS, IPS and Central Services.
At the same time, UPSC is also in the headlines after allegations against trainee IAS Pooja Khedkar, who allegedly forged her documents to get entry into the civil services.
