Maruti Suzuki Swift has topped the top 10 hatchback list with 16,422 units in June 2024
In June 2024, the new generation Maruti Swift topped the hatchback sales charts with 16,422 units sold domestically. This represents a growth of 3 per cent YoY as compared to 15,955 units sold in the same month last year. Maruti Suzuki Baleno took the second spot with 14,895 units sold, up from 14,077 units, registering a growth of 6 per cent YoY.
At the same time, Maruti WagonR was the third best-selling car with sales of 13,790 units, a decline of 21 per cent year-on-year as compared to 17,481 units sold in June 2023. Alto stood fourth with sales of 7,775 units, a decline of 31 per cent as compared to 11,323 units sold during the same period last year.
Tata Tiago stood at the sixth position with sales of 5,174 units compared to 8,135 units, showing a decline of 36 percent year-on-year. In June 2024, the Hyundai i20 hatchback ranked fifth on the list with 5,315 units sold, a decline of 14 percent year-on-year compared to 6,162 units sold in the previous year. It is two places above its younger brother Grand i10 Nios.

Notably, all the top ten hatchbacks except Swift, Baleno and its rebadged counterpart Glanza witnessed a YoY decline in sales. This trend suggests a general decline in the popularity of hatchbacks as more customers are turning to compact SUVs. Tata Altroz recorded sales of 3,937 units, down from 7,250 units in the same period last year, marking a 46 per cent YoY decline and is ranked ninth on the list.
The Hyundai Grand i10 Nios secured the seventh spot with sales of 4,948 units as against 6,321 units, marking a 22 per cent drop in sales. Tata recently revamped the Altroz lineup by dropping a few variants and introducing the new top-spec Altroz Racer trim a few weeks ago. The Altroz Racer is powered by a performance-oriented 1.2-litre three-cylinder turbo petrol engine that produces 120 PS of power and 170 Nm of torque. It comes mated to a 6-speed manual transmission only.
Toyota Glanza achieved sales of 4,118 units, up from 3,467 units sold last year, registering a growth of 19 per cent year-on-year. Meanwhile, Maruti Suzuki Celerio secured the tenth spot with sales of 2,985 units, registering a decline of 12 per cent year-on-year compared to 3,399 units sold in the same period last year.
