A proposal was submitted to the Union Food Processing Minister for setting up a mega food park in Bathinda; a food testing laboratory was also demanded for Amritsar
Khas Khas, Chandigarh:
To make agriculture profitable in Punjab, generate more employment opportunities and increase the income of farmers, Punjab Agriculture & Farmers Welfare and Food Processing Minister Gurmeet Singh Khuddian has submitted a proposal to Union Minister for Food Processing Industries Shri Chirag Paswan to set up a Mega Food Park in Bathinda.
Khuddian, who was accompanied by Principal Secretary Food Processing Rakhi Gupta Bhandari during her meeting with the Union Minister at Panchsheel Bhawan in New Delhi, said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Singh Mann is making efforts to increase the income of farmers by increasing the quality of their agricultural produce as well as to create more and more employment opportunities for the youth.
Talking about the need of Mega Food Park in Malwa region, the Food Processing Minister of Punjab said that this Mega Food Park would prove to be suitable and profitable for the domestic and export market by producing processed food products from perishable agricultural produce.
Khuddian said that in view of the success of Mega Food Park established at Ladowal in Ludhiana district under Mega Food Park Scheme of Ministry of Food Processing, there is great potential to establish another Mega Food Park in Malwa. He said that the necessary land would be provided by the state government for setting up Mega Food Park in Bathinda.
The Punjab Cabinet Minister also strongly appealed to the Union Food Processing Minister to release the pending fourth installment of Grant-in-Aid for Ladowal Mega Food Park and to establish a Food Testing Laboratory with necessary accreditation in Amritsar as the food processing industry, traders, Punjab Rice Millers Association and Pickle-Murabba Association have to get their products tested from Mohali or Delhi.
