England's legendary batsman Joe Root scored a record 32 centuries in the second innings of the second Test match played against West Indies. With the help of this century, he has equaled New Zealand's Kane Williamson and Australia's Steve Smith in terms of scoring the most centuries in Test cricket. Root is in second place (11,940) in terms of scoring the most Test runs for England. Alistair Cook is in first place (12,472). Root will overtake Cook very soon. Meanwhile, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan has said that Root will also overtake Sachin Tendulkar, who has scored the most 15921 runs in Test cricket history.
Vaughan said, “Joe Root will become England's leading run-scorer in the next few months and he is so special that he could actually overtake Sachin Tendulkar. He has not looked as careless with the bat as he used to. He is scoring runs quickly, but it doesn't seem like his ego is taking over. He is just playing with a good understanding. As the rock, Root is obviously key to that, and I loved that he kept the reverse-scoop in the locker until he got past 100 and England had a huge lead.”
Apart from Root (122 runs in 178 balls) Harry Brook (109 runs in 132 balls) also scored a century in the second innings against West Indies in the second Test match played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. Regarding Brook, Vaughan said, “Then there is Harry Brook, who is going to provide the audience with a lot of 'I was there' moments in the next few years. He will play such innings and shots that you will say 'wow'. I have seen players over time, but I am not sure I have seen any player who has so much time to play aggressive shots that look very easy. Calmness, trigger, high hands, raised wrists. There is a bit of Kevin Pietersen in there, who has the ability to play a tremendous innings.
England defeated West Indies by a huge margin of 241 runs on the fourth day of the second Test match. With this, they won the 3 match series 2-0.
