Bengaluru Police:With the help of their sniffer dog, Bengaluru police not only caught the murder accused but also saved a woman from being murdered. The case is from Davanagere district of Karnataka. The accused has been identified as Rangaswamy, who is accused of murdering a man named Santosh. During interrogation, it was revealed that the accused had committed the crime because he suspected that Santosh and his wife were having an illicit relationship.
Santosh was stabbed to death near a petrol pump on Bada Road in Santebennur on Wednesday. After receiving information about the incident, the police started investigating the case and tried to reach the accused with the help of sniffer dog Tunga.
When the police took a Doberman dog to the crime scene to reach the accused, it ran away from the crime scene sniffing towards the accused's house, which was about 8 kilometers away. When the police reached the crime scene with the dog, they saw that the accused was beating his wife. As soon as the police reached there, they caught the murder accused and saved the woman.
What information did the police give about the incident?
SP Uma Prashant said that during interrogation, accused Rangaswamy admitted that he had killed Santosh. He told the police that he suspected that Santosh had an illicit relationship with his wife. The SP said that after killing Santosh, accused Rangaswamy went home and beat up his wife.
The SP said that the accused was arrested while he was attacking his wife. Rangaswamy's friends Hanumanthappa and Maharudrappa, who were present with him at the time of the murder, have been detained for questioning. A case has been registered in this regard at the Santhebennur police station.
The 30-year-old woman is seriously injured after the beating and has been admitted to the hospital for treatment. According to the police, during interrogation, the accused Rangaswamy also said that if the police had not stopped him, he would have killed his wife. According to Constable Shafiullah, who handles the sniffer dog, when Tunga-2 was taken to the scene, it started barking and running in one direction. I realized that it has caught the scent of the suspect. Then it started running in the direction of the smell.
Tunga-2 stopped in front of a house where noises were coming from inside. Other policemen immediately broke the main door of the house. After going inside, they saw a man brutally beating his wife with a stick. The accused was identified as 30-year-old Rangaswamy, who is accused of murdering Santosh Kumar.

IG East Range Ramesh Banoth told the Times of India that this was a rare case where a police dog averted the murder of a human being. He said that we had another sniffer dog named Tunga. He died in 2022. He had helped the Davanagere police solve 70 murder cases. In his memory, we named this dog Tunga-2. Tunga-2 joined the dog squad last year.
