Palworld has recently undergone a big change that gave the game a lot of new content. The major Sakurajima update has provided players with new weapons, structures, Pals, and more. One of the more notable additions would be the new island and faction, both having clear influence from Japanese culture. While the new enemies are a great way to give the game’s world more life, they still lack something that a future update may be able to fix.
The Sakurajima has brought about the new Moonflowers faction in Palworld. Controlled by Saya Kurosaki, the new group has established itself as a powerful force within the newly added Sakurajima Island. The game offers little information about the group other than being inspired by real-life Japanese warriors and their hierarchy system. Some believed that the addition of a new faction would result in Palworld would finally result in the game focusing on providing a proper story. While that is not the case, there is still the possibility that a future update may change that.

Palworld’s Sakurajima Update Leaving One Type of Base Customization Out is a Huge Missed Opportunity
The recent Sakurajima update for Palworld missed a major opportunity to give players more customization options for their bases.
Why the Moonflowers Need to Have a Story
Palworld‘s enemy factions need some major story updates due to how underdeveloped they are, but the Moonflowers might be the key to giving them what they need. A future update must provide the new group with a proper story for a few reasons:
- An explanation of their role within Sakurajima Island and their goals would give them more meaning in the game
- It could lead to cutscenes and actual dialogue that allow players to get invested in their purpose
- The new faction getting its own story could lead to the other factions also getting the same treatment, improving them as a result
Although Sakurajima Island can be considered one of Palworld‘s most beautiful locations, it could have been more if the faction tied to it was properly developed. The Moonflowers have the looks and a setting that could easily set up a memorable plot or at least give them an interesting background. The potential is there, and it is up to Pocketpair to capitalize on it to deepen the game and some of its world’s inhabitants.
How Giving the Moonflowers Its Own Story Will Benefit the Other Factions
Palworld‘s Sakurajima Island could be the right place to kickstart an actual story within the game. If the Moonflowers were given a proper background and narrative in a future update, it would be possible to interconnect it with the purpose of the other factions. There is close to nothing in the game that properly fleshes out what each group does or why they’re in the world, making them feel like just another enemy to take down. But that might change if the Moonflowers become the stepping stone that leads to their development.
Tying the factions to an actual plot could also give more meaning to all of Palworld‘s tower bosses other than them being used as an added challenge. As they are now, they have nothing that makes them special other than their looks and strength in combat. However, this can be changed by something as simple as giving them pre-combat dialogue that explains their purposes and gives them more personality. The game can even take it a step further by allowing players to encounter and interact with them outside their towers, truly making them feel like they’re a part of the world.
Palworld‘s Sakurajima update could be a good sign for the game, as its new content shows Pocketpair’s creativity and vision for the future. The Moonflowers have the potential to provide value to the factions and turn them from an underbaked aspect to something entertaining and engaging. If Pocketpair decides to give its latest faction a proper background and plot, then the game may find even more success than it already is.
