New Delhi :
BJP has started preparations for the assembly elections to be held next year. The party will soon start working on increasing its reach in a total of 30 assembly constituencies, including 12 reserved seats in the capital, which have a significant number of Scheduled Caste (SC) voters. A senior party leader said that dedicated 'vistaraks' (senior workers of Delhi BJP) have been appointed to increase door-to-door contact with the people living in these 30 assembly constituencies. These mostly include unauthorized colonies and slums. BJP's strategy may increase Kejriwal's troubles. People from the lower class are considered to be voters of Aam Aadmi Party.
BJP got more votes
The party had performed well in the 12 assembly constituencies reserved for Scheduled Castes (SC) spread across seven parliamentary seats in the recently concluded Lok Sabha elections. He said that in eight of the 12 assembly constituencies, the BJP got more votes than the 'India' alliance candidates. The BJP leader said, “This has increased the confidence within the party that these seats with a majority of Dalit voters can be won in the assembly elections too.”
Failed to win Dalit dominated seat
The BJP has consistently failed to win a Dalit-dominated seat since 2013 and the party is facing a tough challenge in forming the government in Delhi. Mohan Lal Girha, president of the Scheduled Caste Front of the BJP's Delhi unit, said, “Apart from these 12 reserved seats, there are about 18 constituencies like Bijwasan, Narela, Nangloi and Shahdara, where Dalit voters play an important role in deciding the fate of candidates in the elections.”
Elections will be held in February next year
Girha said the 'vistaaraks' appointed by the party will focus on around 4,000 polling booths out of a total of over 13,000, where Dalit votes matter. Each of these 30 assembly seats will have a dedicated 'vistaaraks' who will deploy 10 workers for each booth to ensure regular door-to-door contact with voters, he said. The Delhi assembly election is due in February next year.
