India's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, R Ravindra.
India on Friday called for a ban on all forms of support to terrorism, including financial aid, at the United Nations (UN). India's Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN, R Ravindra, called for a ban on terrorists and their institutions to stop the financing of terrorism and combat it effectively.
Delivering a statement at a UN Security Council briefing on international peace and security, Ravindra said that some countries use terrorism for their own benefit. He said that due to this, cooperation between countries on multilateral platforms including the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) can be affected.
international peace and security
He said that when we talk about international peace and security, you will agree that terrorism is one of the most serious threats. Therefore, we should avoid double standards in our fight against terrorism. Some countries are using terrorism as a means of state power.
resolve to fight terrorism
We must reaffirm our resolve to fight terrorism and act against all forms of support, including its economic aid. Full implementation of the UNSC resolution and sanctions on terrorist individuals and entities is needed.
giving shelter to terrorists
Effectively combat terrorism. In this regard, the SCO leaders agreed in the Astana Declaration adopted on 4 July 2024 that the international community should isolate and expose countries that harbor terrorists, provide them safe havens and condone terrorism.
Stop radicalism among youth
He also called for taking proactive steps to prevent the spread of radicalism among youth. He said that the joint statement issued on the subject of radicalism during India's SCO chairmanship in 2023 reflects their shared commitment to fight against it. Highlighting the role of the SCO-Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) in strengthening cooperation among member countries, R Ravindra said that in the backdrop of increasing regional conflicts with new and complex security challenges, the SCO-Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS) is playing an important role in strengthening cooperation among member countries.
