The Indian stock market closed today i.e., Thursday, July 18 with a resounding rally. In the morning, the market was open and doing business in the red zone. Sensex touched 81,522 and Nifty 24,829 during trading. However, the market later fell slightly and the Sensex closed up 626 points at 81,343.
At this time, the Nifty registered a jump of 187 points, closing at 24,800. Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 22 rose and 8 declined. Earlier on Tuesday too, the market had made an all-time high level. While the market was closed yesterday i.e. Wednesday on Muharram holiday.
The market made an all-time high on Tuesday
Earlier on Tuesday i.e. July 16, the market had made an all-time high level. Sensex made a high of 80,898 and Nifty made a high of 24,661 during trading. After this the market fell slightly and the Sensex closed up 51 points at 80,716. Nifty also saw a jump of 26 points. It closed at 24,613. While yesterday i.e. Wednesday, the stock market was closed today due to Muharram holiday.
Sectoral update
IT stocks were the biggest gainers in today's trade. The Nifty IT index closed with a gain of 2.22 percent. Apart from this, shares of banking, auto, FMCG, energy, healthcare and oil and gas sectors have closed sharply. But consumer durables, metals and pharma stocks declined.
