Today, Rasgolla Day is celebrated in Srimandir to mark the end of Jagannathdev's 'Niladri BJ' or Rath Yatra. Both Odisha and West Bengal have been claiming the origin of Rasgolla.
In 2017, Rasgolla was given the Geographical Indication (GI) tag of West Bengal. Two years later, Odisha also received the same recognition in 2019.
The Rasgolla of Odisha is claimed to be different from the famous Rasgolla of Bengal.
According to tradition, Goddess Lakshmi got angry and prevented Jagannath from entering the temple during the Rath Yatra.
Later, the wrath of Goddess Lakshmi was appeased through Rasgolla.
Since 2015, Rasgolla Day has been celebrated in Odisha every year on the occasion of 'Niladri BJ'.
This year, famous sand artist Sudarshan Patnayak has created a sand sculpture wishing 'Niladri BJ' and Rasgolla Divas.
It may be noted that the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) is going to laser scan the interior rooms of the Puri gem.
All the treasures from the outer and inner rooms of the Ratnavara were removed on Thursday for the renovation of the Ratnavara.
