Sonya Hussyn became emotional discussing the problems with her father while she was growing up.
She proudly shared the news of purchasing a new house for her family, considering it as one of her greatest accomplishments.
However, her journey towards this achievement was not only about material success but also about healing and strengthening her relationships.
During an appearance on Wasi Shah’s show, Sonya Hussyn opened up about the unseen phases of her life.
She delved into the depths of her personal struggles and revealed that her parents had experienced marital problems while she was growing up.
Sonya said this had a profound impact on her relationship with her father.
Their connection had always been rocky, but Sonya remained unaware of the underlying issues until she entered into a romantic relationship.
It was her ex-partner who made her realise that she was seeking fatherly protection and comfort from him.
He pointed out that a girl typically finds this in a healthy father-daughter relationship.
This psychological phenomenon, though common, had gone unnoticed by Sonya.
Encouraged by her ex, she decided to seek therapy to address these unresolved emotions and seek the healing she needed.
Sonya said: “I needed to pamper my inner child.
“You need to heal yourself before getting into a relationship and I did not understand that.”
As Sonya matured into adulthood, she took the initiative to express her love and emotions to her father.
The moment was filled with raw emotions as her father, usually not very expressive, was deeply moved and shed tears of joy and relief.
She continued: “It was Father’s Day and I called him and told him ‘I love you’.
“There was silence on the call for a few moments and then I heard his intense crying. I had never seen my father cry.
“I believe every man is like this. It’s just the society’s pressure that doesn’t let them express their emotions.”
From that point on, Sonya made a conscious effort to mend their bond, making amends wherever possible.
She revealed her regrets: “I wish I had not wasted all of that time. I could have had that father-daughter bond if I had spoken about it earlier.
“But back then I used to think there’s no use talking about it.”
Though her father may not openly express his feelings, he ensures that Sonya knows how proud he is of her achievements.
Their relationship continues to evolve, with Sonya actively working to strengthen the connection with her father, bridging the gaps that were once present.
