She studied only till the fourth grade. The actress was married at the age of 14, but this marriage did not last long.

Silk left her in-laws' house and came to Chennai. She started doing small roles in films. Later she took training in acting and dancing. Vinu Chakravarthy was the one who told the makers about Silk.
