Violence over reservation: The movement of student organizations against reservation in Bangladesh continues. Hundreds of youth have died so far during this movement. Despite the deployment of the army and the imposition of nationwide curfew, the situation in Bangladesh has not come under control. Therefore, now the government has taken strict action. The Bangladesh government has now ordered shoot at sight to stop the violence. This decision is likely to worsen the situation.
Bangladesh has been grappling with the issue of reservation for the last several days. Violence erupted in Bangladesh over reservation in government jobs. So far more than 133 people have died in the violence that broke out in different parts of the country, while many people have been seriously injured. After this, the police imposed a strict curfew across the country on Saturday and military forces have camped in different parts of the national capital Dhaka. At the same time, the police have been ordered to shoot at sight.
In view of the deteriorating situation in the country, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has announced a nationwide curfew. Apart from this, the army has also been asked to take charge. Protesters have come out on the streets demanding reservation in government jobs. The Supreme Court will give its verdict on Sunday on the matter of cancelling quota in civil service jobs. On Thursday, 22 people were killed when protesting students tried to impose a complete shutdown in the country.
Why are protests happening?
The main reason for violence in Bangladesh is the demand and protest against reservation in government jobs. One group of protesters has demanded that the reservation given in government jobs to the descendants of people who participated in the 1971 independence war should be retained. While the other group is against the continuation of such a system in government jobs. They believe that this reservation should be canceled. Due to this, there is continuous violence in Bangladesh.
