New Delhi, July 22 (IANS) Scotland's fast bowler Charlie Castle created history in his ODI debut on Monday. Charlie Castle took 7 wickets for 21 runs in 5.4 overs against Oman in an ICC Men's Cricket World Cup League 2 match. With this, he broke the 9-year-old record of South African fast bowler Kagiso Rabada.
Castle was included in the team in place of another fast bowler Chris Soul. Chris Soul was not available due to personal reasons. Castle made a brilliant start by dismissing former Oman captain Zeeshan Masood LBW on his very first ball. He bowled Ayan Khan on his second ball. This was the first time a bowler took two wickets on his first two balls in ODI cricket.
Cassel's impressive debut continued as he dismissed Mehran Khan in the 18th over to complete his five-wicket haul, joining a select group of 15 bowlers to have taken five wickets on ODI debut.
But Cassel's bowling didn't stop there, he also dismissed Oman's lower-order batsmen early, and took 7 wickets for 21 runs in his first ODI. This is the best bowling performance by any bowler in a debut match in ODI cricket. Earlier this record was in the name of South Africa's Kagiso Rabada, who took 6 wickets on his debut match against Bangladesh in 2015. Rabada then took 6 wickets for 16 runs.
Castle is now seventh in the list of best bowling performances in ODI cricket. The entire Oman team was bowled out for 91 runs in 21.4 overs. Pratik Athawale scored the highest 34 runs for Oman, and apart from him there were only two batsmen who touched the double-digit mark. Scotland's team achieved this target with 8 wickets and 196 balls remaining.
