New Delhi. The Supreme Court granted bail to Ashish Mishra, son of former Union Minister Ajay Mishra, in the 2021 Lakhimpur-Kheri violence case. After approving the bail application, the court has directed him to stay in Delhi or Lucknow. The court directed the subordinate court to expedite the hearing of the case and fix a time limit.
Let us tell you that eight people lost their lives in the Lakhimpur Kheri violence. After this, he was banned from going to Delhi or Lucknow. On January 25 last year, the apex court had granted interim bail to Ashish Mishra in the unfortunate horrific incident of violence.
A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Ujjal Bhuiyan also granted bail to the farmers in the case and directed the trial court to expedite the hearing.
The bench said that the interim order has been made absolute keeping in mind all the circumstances. We have been informed that out of 117 witnesses, seven have been examined so far. In our opinion, there is a need to expedite the trial proceedings. We direct the trial court to fix a timetable keeping in mind other pending time-bound or urgent cases, but give priority to the pending matter.
What is the matter?
Violence broke out in the district when farmers protested against the visit of Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya to the area. During this, four farmers were crushed by an SUV. After this, angry farmers beat a driver and two BJP workers to death. A journalist also died in this violence.
