Reacting to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena’s purported message that Arvind Kejriwal was deliberately skipping meals to make himself sick, AAP MP Sanjay Singh on Sunday claimed that there was a conspiracy to assassinate the Delhi Chief Minister.
At a press conference on Sunday, Sanjay Singh accused the BJP of playing with the health of Kejriwal, who has been lodged in Tihar jail since March 21. “The BJP is playing with the health of Arvind Kejriwal. Earlier they were saying he was eating sweets and trying to increase his sugar level but now they are saying he has reduced his food intake. Why would anyone do this and put his life at risk?” he said, adding, “There is a conspiracy to kill Kejriwal.”
The AAP has claimed that Kejriwal has lost eight kilograms since he went to jail. The party said the AAP chief’s sudden weight loss could be a sign of some serious illness.
Singh said, “Arvind Kejriwal’s medical report is enough to show that anything can happen to him in jail at any time and the way Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor and BJP are making false statements on Arvind Kejriwal’s health, it confirms our suspicion.”
In a letter sent by the Lieutenant Governor’s office to the Chief Secretary on Friday, it was said that Saxena has expressed concern over Kejriwal not consuming the prescribed therapeutic diet and medicines. Citing the report of the Tihar Jail Superintendent (Prisons) on Kejriwal’s health condition, the letter said that it revealed the fact that there were several instances of the Chief Minister “deliberately consuming low-calorie foods” even though he was being provided with ample home-cooked food.
It said that Kejriwal had also refused to take insulin before dinner on July 7. Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate in the excise policy case. Last month, the lower court granted him bail in this case. But, the CBI arrested him. Later, the Supreme Court granted him interim bail in the Enforcement Directorate case.
Earlier this year, the Enforcement Directorate had claimed that Kejriwal was eating high-sugar food to increase his blood sugar levels to create grounds for medical bail. He is still in jail because of the CBI case.
