After Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Russia, US State Department's Principal Deputy Spokesperson Vedant Patel said on Thursday that we are partners with India in many key areas. Also, in the context of the Ukraine-Russia war, he said that we will continue to ask all partners, including India, to support efforts for a lasting and just peace for Ukraine. Vedant Patel also appealed to Russia to withdraw its army from the territory of Ukraine.
When asked about India-US relations in the wake of PM Narendra Modi's visit to Russia, Vedant Patel said that India remains a country with which we are partners in many important areas. He said that this was seen last summer, when we hosted Prime Minister Modi's state visit.
Disappointment over PM Modi's Russia visit
Let us tell you that PM Modi was on an official visit to Russia on 8-9 July and he met Russian President Vladimir Putin. After which Ukrainian President Zelensky expressed disappointment over PM Modi's visit to Russia, which he called destructive for peace efforts. During his bilateral talks with Russian President Putin, PM Modi raised the issue of killings of children during conflicts and said that it is heartbreaking when innocent children die. The Prime Minister said that everyone who believes in humanity is hurt by the loss of life.
37 children died in missile attack
It is worth noting that 37 children were killed in the recent missile attack on a children's hospital in Kiev. On this, PM Modi had said that whether it is war or terrorist attack, every person who believes in humanity is saddened by the loss of life. But when we see innocent children dying, it is heartbreaking.
Advocacy of peace and diplomacy
PM Modi had said that there is no solution on the battlefield and added that peace talks do not succeed amid bombs, guns and bullets. This was PM Modi's first visit to Russia since the war between Moscow and Kiev began in 2022. India has always advocated peace and diplomacy to resolve the conflict between Ukraine and Russia.
