Vikram Sahney: In Chandigarh, Rajya Sabha member Vikram Sahni released his report card regarding his tenure. He said that I raised my voice in Rajya Sabha on many issues. In this, I have raised 145 issues in Rajya Sabha in 2 years. Sahni said that the farmers are neither prosperous nor happy. In which I raised the issue in front of the Center that you formed a committee but did not make any person from Punjab a part of it, so you must make someone from Punjab a member.
He said that he also read Swaminathan's report and discussed it. There are many issues in it which can be adopted with slight changes. Farmers have organized a meeting at the Constitution Club on Monday, I will also participate in it and will put the issue in front of Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Chauhan.
Sahni said that he had raised the issue regarding Punjab University. When the situation worsened there, he raised the issue regarding PU. Now the VC is going to organize a program in collaboration with PU, in which everyone will be invited for a non-political discussion so that the issues can be resolved.
The issue regarding RDF was also raised. In this, though the matter is in court now, the amount about which there is no dispute should have been released. The way GST was applied on Dharamshalas, it was resolved that GST will not be applied in those places.
Sahni said that he also raised the issue of Gatka that it is a martial art. Sahni said that I have also called MPs from other parties. Of course we have come from different political parties but we should unite and demand funds from the Center for the development of Punjab.
He said, whatever funds I get from the centre, I use them from my own pocket to skill the children so that they can succeed in employment. There is a tragedy regarding the youth in Punjab right now. They also get intoxicated because an idle mind is devil's workshop.
