Profit booking in the stock market before the budget, investors lost more than 8 lakh crores

Sensex and Nifty slipped after setting a new record of strength

New Delhi, July 19 (HS). Before the budget to be presented on July 23 next week, investors in the domestic stock market on Friday exercised caution and booked profits by selling all around. Today, the stock market set a new record of strength in the beginning itself, but after that due to the pressure of the bears, the stock market fell by about one percent. After the whole day's trading, the Sensex closed with a weakness of 0.91 percent and the Nifty closed with a weakness of 1.09 percent. Due to continuous selling in the market today, investors suffered a loss of more than 8 lakh crore rupees in a single day's trading.

During the day's trading today, all the sectoral indices of BSE and NSE closed in the red with a decline. The shares of Public Sector Enterprise, Oil & Gas, Metal, Consumer Durables, Capital Goods and Automobile sector faced the most selling pressure today. Due to the continuous selling, the metal sector fell by more than 4 percent. There was continuous pressure in the broader market today as well, due to which the BSE Midcap Index closed with a weakness of 2.31 percent. Similarly, the Smallcap Index ended today's trading with a decline of 2.22 percent.

Due to the weakness in the market today, the wealth of stock market investors has decreased by more than Rs 8 lakh crore. The market capitalization of companies listed on BSE decreased to Rs 446.25 lakh crore (provisional) after today's trading. On the previous trading day i.e. Thursday, their market capitalization was Rs 454.32 lakh crore. In this way, investors have suffered a loss of about Rs 8.07 lakh crore from today's trading.

While, out of the 50 shares included in Nifty, 5 shares closed in the green zone and 45 shares closed in the red zone.

The BSE Sensex today opened at 81,585.06 points, jumping 241.60 points and setting a new record of strength. As soon as the trading started, it reached 81,587.76 points with the support of buying and set a new record of all-time high. After this, profit booking started in the market. Due to the pressure of selling, the Sensex fell 1,088.66 points from the upper level shortly before the end of today's trading and reached 80,499.10 points with a fall of 844.36 points. However, with the support of buying due to settlement of the day's deals during the last half hour, this index improved marginally from the lower level and closed at 80,604.65 points with a weakness of 738.81 points.

Like the Sensex, NSE's Nifty also started trading at 24,853.80 points today, setting a new record of strength with a gain of 52.95 points. As soon as the market opened, this index moved ahead and reached its highest peak of 24,854.80 points till now. Due to continuous selling, this index fell 346.65 points from the upper level and reached 24,508.15 points with a weakness of 292.70 points.
