Varanasi. Cardiologist Prof. Omshankar, who had recently gone on a hunger strike for several days at Banaras Hindu University, has been reappointed as the head of the department. He has been made the head of the cardiology department of Sir Sundar Lal Hospital of BHU with immediate effect. According to an order issued by the university administration, this decision has been taken after the proposal of IMS-BHU director Prof. SN Sankhwar.
It is worth mentioning that on 24 May, the Vice Chancellor of BHU removed Prof. Omshankar from the post of Head of Department. Prof. Vikash Agarwal was made the Head of Department in his place. Omshankar's supporters protested heavily against this. Prof. Omshankar was accused of not doing his duty during the fast unto death. Departmental work was pending. On this basis, he was removed from the post of Head of Department.
After being removed from the post, Prof. Omshankar strongly opposed this order. He said that he ran OPD in his cardiology chamber for the last 20 days. Patients were seen only on the prescription of BHU. Investigations were also done and bypass surgery was also done. He showed that attendance was marked in all the registers. He did not go on strike but continued his fast unto death while working.
