New Delhi: A total of 117 athletes will be representing India at the Paris Olympics 2024 as they travel to the French capital to take part in the grand event that starts in less than a week on July 26. Out of the contingent of these 117 athletes, 29 members (11 women and 18 men) are part of the athletics squad that will be taking part in several events till the culmination of the games on August 11.
The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) on Wednesday announced the final 29-member Indian athletics squad inclusive of two reserve players for the Paris Olympics. An earlier squad of 28 members including Shot Put player Abha Khatua was named by the Athletics Federation of India (AFI). Khatua had initially qualified via the world rankings but was unexpectedly removed from the squad by the World Athletics without any provided reason.
The delegation of 117 athletes will be accompanied by the support staff and officials totalling 140 members out of which 72 will be attended at the expense of the Indian government including the hotel stays.
The complete Indian contingent comprises athletes from various sports – athletics (29), shooting (21), hockey (19), table tennis (8), badminton (7), wrestling (6), archery (6), boxing (6), golf (4), tennis (3), swimming (2), sailing (2), and one participant each from equestrian, judo, rowing, and weightlifting.
