-Claim to form alliance only on the condition of contesting elections separately
Kathmandu, July 20 (HS). An agreement has been reached between the two major political parties in Nepal to maintain the power coalition till the next elections and to contest the elections alone without forming an alliance with the Maoists.
Before breaking the alliance with the Maoists and joining the Nepali Congress, both the parties have reached a written agreement. Although this agreement has not been made public yet, the leaders of these parties have made public some points of the written agreement. Vice President of CPN UML and former Deputy Prime Minister Ishwar Pokhrel has said that there has been an agreement to take this alliance till the upcoming elections. But one condition for this is that none of the two parties will form an alliance with the Maoist party led by Prachanda.
The Vice President of the UML said that political stability has not been achieved in the country because of the Maoists. Accusing the Maoists, he said that Prachanda is a leader with an unstable character and contests elections in alliance with different parties to maintain instability in the country. In the first election held after the Constituent Assembly, the Maoists contested the election in alliance with the UML but after two years, they toppled their party's government and supported the Congress government.
While the Congress was in power, the Maoists fought the elections in alliance with Oli and in between kept toppling and forming governments, sometimes in alliance with the Congress and sometimes with the UML. This time too, despite becoming the third party, the Maoists, despite being in the Congress alliance, first formed the government with the UML, then broke this alliance within a month and ran the government with the Congress. After a year, without any reason, they broke this alliance too and were running the government with the UML.
Prachanda did not stop there. It had been just four months since he started running the government with Oli that he again started talks with the Congress. This is the reason that this time both the parties together distanced themselves from the Maoists and formed an alliance among themselves. The Nepali Congress has also supported the claim of the UML leader that no alliance will be made with the Maoists in the next elections.
Nepali Congress leader Dr. Minendra Rijal said that this alliance has been formed for the stability of the government. Due to bargaining for power by smaller parties, both the big parties have come together understanding their responsibility. He said that public opinion was being insulted due to smaller parties including Prachanda being in power and keeping the big parties in the opposition. Therefore, Deuba and Oli have come together and the alliance has been formed on the condition of contesting the upcoming elections alone without an alliance with Prachanda.
