Lucknow. The rule of name plate on food shops on Kanwar routes in Muzaffarnagar, Uttar Pradesh will now be applicable in the whole of UP. Chief Minister Yogi has issued an order to the owners of food shops on Kanwar routes in the state to install name plates. The order states that the name and identity of the owner must be written on the shops selling food items on Kanwar routes. This decision has been taken to maintain the purity of the faith of Kanwar pilgrims. It has also been said that action will be taken against those selling products with Halal certification.
The BJP has defended the Muzaffarnagar police's directive to display the names of the owners and workers on all shops on the Kanwar route. BJP's Information and Technology Department chief Amit Malviya said in a post on X, India's secularism cannot be so weak that a uniform order to all restaurants to display the names and contact numbers of owners and workers can harm it. The Muzaffarnagar police order drew reactions from across the country. SP AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi called it a dictatorial decision. At the same time, lyricist Javed Akhtar compared this decision to the Nazi rule in Germany.
BJP ally Janata Dal United (JDU) leader KC Tyagi has asked for the Muzaffarnagar police order to be withdrawn. He said that Muzaffarnagar police displaying the names of food vendors can spread communal tension. He said that there should not be any kind of discrimination on the basis of religion and caste. KC Tyagi said that there has never been any news of communal tension during the Kanwar Yatra passing through various areas of western Uttar Pradesh. Such discrimination on the basis of religion is wrong and will only increase communal division.
