New Delhi: Amid controversy over unusual high scores in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET UG) 2024 from coaching institution hubs in India- Kota, Sikar, a report stated that the top scorers in the medical entrance were not only from the coaching hubs but also from other cities. “It is true that many students appearing from traditional tuition hubs like Sikar, Kota and Kottayam were able to score 700 or more marks. However, the silver lining is that many students appearing from other cities were also able to come within this bracket,” the report mentioned.
The report cited data from the NEET centre-wise result released on Saturday, July 20 where 35 students appearing from Lucknow, 27 students appearing from Kolkata, 25 students appearing from Latur, 20 students appearing from Nagpur, 19 from Faridabad, 18 from Nanded, 17 from Indore, 16 each from Cuttack and Kanpur, 14 each from Kolhapur, Noida, Sahibzada Ajit Singh Nagar, 13 each from Agra and Aligarh, 10 each from Akola and Patiala, 8 from Davangere, 7 from Banaskantha, etc. were able to score 700 or more marks.
The report cited the data claiming that candidates scoring between 650 to 699 are spread across 509 cities and 4,044 centres, 600 to 649 are spread across 540 cities and 4484 centres, 550 to 599 are spread across 548 cities and 4563 centres.
The top rankers (1- 100) are from 56 cities and 95 centres, rank 101 to 1000 from 431 cities and 2959 centres, ranks 10001 to 50000 are spread across 523 cities and 4283 centres, as per the report.
Following the NEET result declared on Saturday, abnormalities in scores reported from exam centres in Rajasthan’s Kota, Sikar, Rajkot in Gujarat among many others. Over 150 candidates from a centre in Sikar have scored above 600 marks, while at an exam centre in Rajkot, over 240 candidates scored above 600 marks, and 148 candidates scored between 650 and 720.
NEET UG result 2024 was announced on July 4, and allegaging discrepancies in the conduct of NEET, students, parents and education institutions took legal route. The Supreme Court on earlier hearing raised questions on lots of discrepancies and it will again listen to over 40 petitions on NEET discrepancies on Monday, July 22.
