What is AePS

AePS, or Aadhaar Card Enabled Payment System, is a service in which money is withdrawn from a bank account through Aadhaar card and biometric identification. Users whose bank account is linked to Aadhaar card and AePS is enabled can withdraw money from their account even without a checkbook, ATM card, etc. However, the Reserve Bank has set a limit for this.

Cybercriminals have adopted a new method to cheat people, in which they steal people's information and empty their bank accounts using AePS. Hackers have started stealing land allotment documents from government offices, which contain people's fingerprints. These criminals steal fingerprints from these documents for biometric verification. After getting the Aadhaar card number and biometric details, it becomes easy for them to withdraw money from the bank.

To avoid this new scam, users have to pay attention to the security of their Aadhaar card. Users should not share Aadhaar card with anyone. If sharing Aadhaar card is necessary, use Masked Aadhaar card, in which the Aadhaar number remains hidden. Apart from this, Virtual ID (VID) can also be used in place of Aadhaar number.

For this, users have to visit the UIDAI website. There, they will get options to generate Masked Aadhaar and VID. By entering their Aadhaar card and mobile number, they can keep their Aadhaar safe.
