The central government has said in the Lok Sabha that special state status cannot be given to Bihar. RJD has taken a dig at Nitish Kumar and JDU over the Centre's reply. The RJD said that the Centre's reply exposed Nitish Kumar's lies. Apart from this, Lalu Prasad Yadav has also demanded the resignation of Nitish Kumar. While LJP has said that if there is no special status then give a special package. The central government has also explained the reason behind not granting special status to Bihar.
The government told the Lok Sabha that earlier the National Development Council (NDC) had granted special category status to some states, which had several features that required special attention. These features include hilly and difficult terrain, low population density or large proportion of tribal population, strategic location on borders with neighboring countries, economic and infrastructural backwardness and non-viable nature of state finances.
The Center has taken this decision after considering all these factors and the specific situation of the state. Earlier, Bihar's request for special category status was considered by the Inter-Ministerial Group (IMG), which submitted its report on March 30, 2012. The IMG has concluded that based on the existing NDC criteria, the case for special status for Bihar is not made out.
RJD targets Nitish Kumar
On Bihar not getting special state status, RJD targeted Nitish Kumar on social media platform X and wrote, Bihar will not get special state status! – Modi Government in Parliament. Nitish Kumar and JDU people can now comfortably enjoy power at the center and continue hypocritical politics on 'special status'!
With this Lalu Prasad Yadav said, “Nitish Kumar should resign immediately, he said he will give special status to the state! Now the Center has refused.”
Bihar needs to be looked at with sensitivity: Manoj Jha
RJD MP Manoj Jha raised the demand for special status to Bihar with a special package in the Rajya Sabha and said his party will fight for this from Parliament to the streets. Raising the issue during zero hour in the Rajya Sabha, Jha also targeted JDU, a key ally of the central government, saying there was no place for 'or' in the demand for special status or special package.
Pointing to the JD(U), he said, “Some of our colleagues who work with us say that if you cannot give a special state, give a special package. There is no 'or' between special state and special package. . Bihar does not accept 'ya'. A special state status is also required and a special package is also required. We want both. Will demand in Parliament, will demand on the road.
He said, “Bihar needs to be looked at sensitively when the parameters of Bihar's development and progress are discussed. Bihar should not be remembered only during elections. Special state status has been demanded for a long time
The demand for special status to Bihar has been going on for a long time. Local leaders argue that this is necessary for the development of the state. However, the central government's attitude has dampened their hopes.
