New York, July 20 (HS). X owner Elon Musk congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on getting 100 million followers on microblogging site X. On July 19 at around 11.11 pm (Indian time), Musk tagged PM Modi on his official X handle and congratulated him.
Musk said, “Congratulations on being the most followed global leader, Prime Minister Narendra Modi.” This few-word post of the X owner went viral in a jiffy and within just 20 minutes, it was viewed by more than 7.75 lakh X users.
The Prime Minister joined X (as Twitter was then called) in 2009. PM Modi has surpassed other world leaders like US President Joe Biden (38.1 million), Dubai's King Sheikh Mohammed (11.2 million) and Pope Francis (18.5 million) to become the most followed global leader with over 100 million followers. Modi's X handle has gained nearly 30 million followers in the last three years. He has nearly 25 million subscribers on YouTube, while his Instagram account has 91 million followers.
According to a report released on July 14, Prime Minister Modi has more than 10 million followers on his official X handle. He is followed by celebrities like star Indian cricketer Virat Kohli (64.1 million), Brazilian football star Neymar Jr. (63.6 million), American basketball player LeBron James (52.9 million).
PM Modi, who has more followers than many global sports icons, is popular because he is followed by more x-users than celebrities like American singer and performer Taylor Swift (95.3 million), songwriter, singer and international performer Lady Gaga (83.1 million) and star media personality Kim Kardashian (75.2 million).
