All the political parties in Maharashtra have started barricading and strategizing for the upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. The streak of meetings has intensified in the last few days. After electing only one MP in the Lok Sabha polls, the Ajit Pawar-led NCP is also gearing up for the assembly polls. Amid all these developments, speculations are also being made about Sharad Pawar and Ajit Pawar coming together.
The reunification of the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), which was split last year, has been the subject of much debate in Maharashtra. There is news that Ajit Pawar may return home once again. Ajit Pawar's uncle Sharad Pawar has made a big statement. Due to which these speculations have gained momentum.
Maharashtra NCP (Sharad Pawar) president Jayant Patil said there was no discussion about Ajit Pawar's return to his party. He reiterated that Senior Pawar's NCP will give importance to those who have stood by the party in difficult times. Patil's statement came in the backdrop of NCP founder Sharad Pawar's remarks on Wednesday in which he said the doors of his house would remain open for the family, but the decision on anyone's return to the party would be taken by party leaders.
Senior leader of Ajit Pawar group Chhagan Bhujbal met Sharad Pawar unexpectedly at his residence 'Silver Oak' in Mumbai on Monday. There was a closed door discussion between them for an hour and a half. The very next day, Ajit Pawar's wife Sunetra Pawar went to Sharad Pawar's bungalow in Pune. This meeting is being interpreted in political circles.
The BJP leader said a big thing
Speaking to reporters, Maharashtra BJP leader Pravin Hedar said that the process of defection has started due to the assembly elections. In the same order people from Ajit Pawar group are joining Sharad Pawar's group. If Ajitdada also joins hands with uncle Sharad Pawar, the strength of the opposition will obviously increase.
'BJP does not like Ajit Dada's support'
The Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Chandra Pawar), quoting an article published in an RSS-affiliated Marathi weekly, claims that the BJP wants Deputy CM Ajit Pawar's NCP to pull out of the ruling 'Mahayuti' alliance.
Recently an article was published in Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh's weekly 'Vivek', which said that public sentiment against the BJP has grown exponentially after it formed an alliance with the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) in 2023. The result of this is that the BJP performed poorly in the Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra.
Let us tell you that in Lok Sabha elections 2024, NCP under the leadership of NCP founder Sharad Pawar contested on 10 seats in Maharashtra, out of which it won 8 seats. While the Ajit Pawar group fielded candidates on four seats, they managed to win only the Raigad seat.
In Baramati constituency, Ajit Pawar fielded his wife Sunetra Pawar with his sister-in-law Supriya Shula but Ajit Pawar lost this battle of prestige. In Maharashtra, the BJP contested 28 seats, but managed to win only 9, while in 2019 it won 23 seats.
Talking about the Maharashtra assembly elections, the undivided NCP won 54 assembly seats in the 2019 elections. In July 2023, the party split and 39 MLAs joined the faction led by Ajit Pawar. Assembly elections may be held in the state in October this year.
