Mohammed Shami recently revealed MS Dhoni’s retirement:Star India pacer Mohammed Shami recently revealed former India skipper MS Dhoni's thoughts on retirement. Notably, there has been widespread speculation about the legendary India cricketer's retirement from all formats of the game after the Indian Premier League 2024 (IPL 2024).
After leading CSK to their fifth IPL title in 2023, Dhoni had promised his fans to return for one more season and hence play in the 2024 edition of the tournament. However, Dhoni was expected to announce his retirement after Chennai failed to reach the playoffs of the tournament.
However, the former CSK captain is yet to make an announcement. Recently, Shami gave his opinion on Dhoni's retirement and said that only the media wants him to retire and the cricketer is not much worried.
On a podcast with Shubhankar Mishra, Shami said, “You [मीडिया] People are questioning his future, the man himself says, we'll see
Speaking further, Shami recalled a conversation with Dhoni about retirement where the cricketer gave his opinion on when a player should retire.
“I had a chat with Mahi bhai in which he asked me, ‘When should a player retire?’ He said, ‘First when you get bored and second, when you realise you will be dropped from the team’,” Shami added.
“But the first and foremost thing is that when you stop enjoying the game, it is a sign that your time has come. It is better that you choose the best moment to retire. Because if you are not able to stick to a particular format then your body starts informing you. That is when a player should take this decision,” he added.
Meanwhile, Mohammed Shami is undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) after a successful surgery on his ankle injury. The speedster last played for India in the ODI World Cup 2023 where he finished as the tournament's leading wicket-taker with 24 wickets. The pacer will be keen to regain fitness ahead of the all-important Border Gavaskar Trophy and Champions Trophy 2025 in Australia.
