New Delhi: Budget carrier IndiGo urged passengers to avoid visiting the airport or calling its helplines unless absolutely necessary and ensure that they check the flight status before reaching the airport, as the airline was in the process of getting systems in order on Saturday a day after the worldwide Microsoft outage on Friday.
What CrowdStrike CEO said
IndiGo flight cancellations
IndiGo acknowledged that the outage had been resolved and its systems were back online. However, it will take some time to resume normal operations, the airline said. The airline indicated that travel plans may be disrupted on this account owing to delays and cancellations. The airline said it was doing its best to get everything back on track as soon as possible.
The airline offered passengers the option to either choose an alternate flight or opt for a refund in the event of flight cancellations. The airline asked passengers to visit the following link for more clarity.

IndiGo cancels 192 flights
IndiGo issues handwritten boarding passes
The airline has been under pressure since a passenger shared a photo of a handwritten boarding pass issued to them on Friday amid the system outage. IndiGo acknowledged the post while adding that it was a throwback and wishing the passenger to “enjoy the classic touch”. Some passengers in Indore were also issued a handwritten credit note for cancelled flights, Dainik Bhaskar reported.
Overall, 200 flights were cancelled in India on Friday owing to the Microsoft outage. Of these 192 flights were operated by IndiGo. The Microsoft outage was triggered by a glitchy software update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. The road to recovery is unlikely to be easy since it involves manual weeding out of the problematic file from each system.
