The month of Sawan has begun. Amidst all this, BSP chief Mayawati has condemned the government's directive to traders on the Kanwar Yatra route in UP and Uttarakhand to put up 'nameplates' on their shops. Mayawati wrote in a post on social media on Friday, “This order by the UP and Uttarakhand government to traders on the Kanwar route to prominently write the full name of the owner and staff on their shops and also to ban the sale of meat for electoral gain is completely unconstitutional. This attempt to economically boycott people of a particular religion is highly condemnable.”

The UP government has made 'nameplates' mandatory on food shops on the Kanwar Yatra routes in the state. The Chief Minister's Office informed on Friday that this decision has been taken to maintain the sanctity of the faith of Kanwar pilgrims. Action has also been said to be taken against those selling products without Halal certification.

On this decision of the UP government, BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said, “This kind of confusion had happened due to a limited administrative guideline, I am happy that the state government has removed whatever communal confusion had arisen… I just want to say that no one should try to spread communal confusion on such topics. This is not good for any country, religion, humanity. There should not be communal politics on respect for faith and protection of faith.”
