Maruti Suzuki Alto is currently in its 9th generation in the Japanese market. Its production started in 1979. Since then, Suzuki Alto has seen several changes in its kerb weight. For the 10th generation Alto, Suzuki has set a target of reducing its weight by about 100 kg.
The current generation Japanese-spec car, which is Kei sized, weighs 680 kg. A 100 kg weight reduction will bring it down to 578 kg, bringing it very close to the original Suzulight that was launched in the early 1970s. In fact, this weight will make it even lighter than the SS80 Maruti 800 that the Indo-Japanese automaker launched in India in 1983.
Why is Maruti reducing its weight?
The reason behind Maruti Suzuki reducing the weight of its Alto car is to present it in a smaller and more efficient model. A glimpse of which can be seen in the form of Z12 engine in the new Swift. At the same time, Alto customers can get better mileage with light weight. At the same time, with a reduction of 100 kg, the 10th generation Alto will be able to give a mileage of about 30 km / liter and the mileage of the CNG variant will reach 37-38 km / kg.
What will be the safety feature
Alto's record in the Global NCAP crash test has not been good. The Maruti Alto K10 tested in 2023 got a 2-star adult safety rating and a 0-star child safety rating. At the same time, it is now expected that the 10th generation Alto will be able to give better results in the NCAP crash test.
