Former cricketer Gautam Gambhir has been appointed as the new head coach of the Indian cricket team. Rahul Dravid's tenure ended with the T20 World Cup series. Currently, the teams are headed by him for the 3 T20I and 3 ODI series against Sri Lanka.

Suryakumar Yadav, who has been appointed as the new captain, will lead the Indian team for the T20I series starting from 27th. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is set to lead the Indian team as usual for the ODI series starting August 2.

As the Champions Trophy cricket series is about to start, the new head coach Gambhir has advised that senior players like captain Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah must be included in the ODI squad for the Sri Lanka series. It seems that the trio who were part of the T20 World Cup-winning Indian team initially wanted to rest in this series, and after Gambhir's instructions, both Rohit and Kohli changed their decision.

In this case, India's star player Virat Kohli, who expressed his willingness to play in the ODI series against Sri Lanka, has put aside his past bitter incidents with head coach Gautam Gambhir and has assured the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) that he is ready to work with him.

“Kohli is ready to work with Gambhir and has made it clear to the relevant BCCI officials. Though the past between the two has been marked by bitter clashes caught on camera during IPL matches, Kohli is believed to have said that past issues will not affect them. Following the T20 World Cup final in Barbados, Delhi-based Kohli has reportedly assured the parties concerned that both are working in the interests of the country and is ready to move on from earlier differences,” according to recent reports.

During the last 2023 IPL season, Gambhir and Virat Kohli clashed on the field. In this clash caused by Naveen-ul-Haq, both Gambhir and Kohli expressed their anger inside the pitch. This caused great controversy.

Chants against him rang out throughout the stadiums where Gambhir, who was a consultant for the Lucknow team, went with the team. In Hyderabad, Kohli fans threw whatever they could at Gambhir as he sat in the dug-out. Similarly, Naveen-ul-Haq was also ignored by Kohli fans. Also, he was severely trolled on social media.

But during this year's series, the trio of Gambhir – Kohli – Naveen ul Haq compromised. Speaking about this, Kohli said, “People are very disappointed with my behaviour. I hugged Naveen and the next day Gauthi bhai (Gautam Gambhir) came and hugged me. Your masala has run out, so you are fuming. We are not children anymore.”
