Ruturaj Gaikwad has not found his place in the T20I side for the series against Sri Lanka. The CSK captain scored 133 runs in the three innings that he played against Zimbabwe. There was an uproar in social media after Gaikwad was snubbed from the T20I squad.
Former India opener and World Cup winner, Kris Srikkanth had a go against the BCCI for not picking Ruturaj Gaikwad in the T20I squad for the tour of Sri Lanka. He stated that Gaikwad should have been the automatic choice in T20I squad after his performances. He urged Gaikwad to score more runs and bring it to the notice of selectors. Srikkanth also took a sly dig at Shubman Gill for finding his place in the T20I squad and also becoming the vice-captain.

Ruturaj Gaikwad has been sensational in the short sample size in T20I cricket
The Chennai Super Kings captain has been one of the most dependable batter for the Yellow Brigade in the IPL. He has scored runs consistently and won matches for the team. In the series against Zimbabwe, he scored 7, 77, and 49 runs respectively in the three innings.
Gaikwad also performed well in the home T20I series against Australia in 2023. He smashed a century against Australia in that series.
He possesses a good technique to accumulate runs, anchor the innings and score big. After the win in the T20 World Cup 2024, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharmaannounced their retirement from the shortest format of the game. Gaikwad would have been the perfect replacement to replace Kohli at number 3 and replicate the role that Kohli had been doing for the last decade. Now, it remains to be seen if Gaikwad does get consistent opportunities going forward.
Meanwhile, India announced Suryakumar Yadav as the T20I captain for the series against Sri Lanka and hence snubbing Hardik Pandya. Shubman Gill, who captained the team in the 5-game t20I series in Zimbabwe, was picked as the vice-captain for the T20I and also the ODI team.
