Religion desk. In Sanatan culture, Kanwar Yatra is considered very sacred, a symbol of determination and the journey of life. The purpose of Kanwar Yatra is to connect with the divine power with discipline, purity and detachment. Kanwar Yatra awakens determination power and self-confidence. Those who carry the Kanwar are called Kanwarias, who fill a bamboo stick and two vessels attached to it with holy water from rivers or lakes and set out on foot from their homes to offer the water to Lord Shiva while chanting Jai Shiva. The service of Kanwariyas is also considered fruitful.
According to the scriptures, the vessels associated with Kanwar are called Brahmaghat and Vishnughat. Since Shiva is contained in bamboo, Kanwariyas receive the blessings of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva simultaneously through Kanwar. Kanwar Yatra is not only helpful in Shiva devotion but also in personal development. That is why lakhs of devotees perform Kanwar Yatra in Shravan and perform Jalabhishek of Shivlings.
In religious scriptures, the Kanwariya who carries the 'Kanwar' is said to be equal to Shiv Yogi, because during the Kanwar Yatra, the Kanwariya becomes equal to Shiva in mind, speech and action and sees Sadashiv in all living beings. The Sanatani people consider the Kanwar Yatra and service of the Kanwariyas to be auspicious, hence people at various places feel gratified by pressing the feet of the Kanwariyas.
According to the belief, Kanwar Yatra is considered to be an easy and simple way to please Lord Shiva and get the desired results. In the month of Sawan, Shiva fulfills the wishes of his devotees by being pleased with Kanwar Yatra and Jalabhishek. Chanting 'Har Har Mahadev and Bol Bam', the devotees are restless to offer water to Shiva by lifting Kanwar. By doing Jalabhishek of Lord Shiva, the devotees get the blessings of their welfare as well as happiness, peace and prosperity of the family.
