New Delhi, July 21 (IANS). Former England captain Joe Root has reached the 8th position in terms of scoring the most runs in Test cricket. He achieved this feat in the second match of the ongoing home Test series against West Indies. Root scored only 14 runs in the first innings of the Test match being held in Nottingham, but he has scored a half-century in the second innings.
Joe Root has surpassed West Indies legend Shivnarine Chanderpaul. Chanderpaul had scored 11867 runs in 164 Test matches at an average of 51.37. Root has broken this record in just 142 matches and has scored 11,869 runs so far, in which his average is 49.87.

West Indies' Brian Lara is at the 7th position in this case, he has scored 11953 runs in 131 Test matches with an average of 52.89. Root's next target will be to break this record.
