England defeated West Indies by 241 runs in the second match of the 3-match Test series. With this victory, the English team has also gained an unassailable lead of 2-0 in the series. The third and final match will be played in Birmingham from July 26. England won the first Test match by an innings and 114 runs.
On Sunday, on the fourth day of the 5-day match, West Indies team chasing a target of 385 runs was all out for 143 runs. Root-Brook centuries take England past 400
England scored 425 runs in the second innings with the help of Joe Root (122 runs) and Harry Brook (109 runs) and gave West Indies a target of 385 runs to win. The English team resumed the innings from a score of 248/3. Root was then playing at 37 and Brook at 71. Both of them shared a 189-run partnership for the fourth wicket. Root scored the 32nd century of his career while Brook scored his 5th century.
West Indies' Joden Seals (4 wickets for 97 runs) broke this partnership by dismissing Brook. Then Root held one end, but did not get support from the other end. Jason Holder ended Root's innings. In the lower order, Gus Atkinson contributed an unbeaten 21 runs.
