Israel attacks Yemen:The Israeli military said on Saturday (July 20) that it had attacked several Houthi targets in western Yemen following a deadly drone attack by the rebel group on Tel Aviv the previous day. This was Israel's first attack on Yemeni soil since the Israel-Hamas war began in October. Israel had threatened to open a new front against the Houthis.
The Israeli military said it targeted several military sites in the Houthi stronghold of the western port city of Hodeidah, in retaliation for hundreds of attacks against Israel in recent months.
Israel's Defense Minister Yoav Galant said in his statement, “Houthis have attacked us more than 200 times. This was the first time they harmed an Israeli civilian. That's why we attacked them. We will do it again if necessary.”
The Israeli army said it had carried out the attack alone and had informed its allies about it, but an Israel Defense Forces official did not say how many places they had targeted. According to information, the army has targeted the main entry point of the port, from where Iranian weapons come.
A statement was also issued by the Houthis,
Houthis spokesman Muhammad Abdulsalam said on social media, “Israel has targeted their civilian targets. They have targeted fuel storage facilities and power stations in the state. The aim of this brutal Israeli attack was to increase the suffering of the people and to put pressure on Yemen to stop supporting Gaza.” Al-Masirah TV, a media outlet controlled by Houthi rebels in Yemen, said the attacks resulted in several deaths and many were seriously injured.
