Noida. A gang that used to steal luxury vehicles by reprogramming the Electronic Content Management (ECM) machine and using duplicate keys has been busted. Kotwali Sector-113 police has arrested the gang's eighth pass gang leader Sonu, resident of Karnal Haryana, along with Pramod, Khalil, Monu Kumar, resident of Sambhal, Rajesh Kakkar, resident of Ludhiana and Ali Sher alias Imran, resident of Azamgarh.
10 cars including a Fortuner stolen from Sector-122 have been recovered from the accused. During interrogation, the accused have confessed to stealing more than 200 vehicles. According to the police, Sonu is an expert in hacking electronic locks and making duplicate keys.
DCP Rambadan Singh said that a Fortuner was stolen from Kotwali Sector-113 area a few months ago. The pictures of the criminals involved in the crime were captured in the CCTV camera. A team formed under the leadership of ACP Third Shaivya Goyal arrested six criminals from the service road near Bharat Hospital on FNG Road on Monday. Several cases are registered against all the criminals except Pramod who recently joined the gang.
During interrogation, it was found that the gang has stolen more than 200 four-wheelers on demand. Apart from UP, the accused used to sell the stolen vehicles in many states of the country including Delhi, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. The police is searching for other criminals of the gang.
According to ADCP Manish Mishra, the criminals used to reprogram the ECM machine of any vehicle. They used to generate new code and make duplicate keys. Before this, Sonu used to break the glass of the driving seat of the car. He used to take the programming pad near the ECM and hack the electronic lock. He used to prepare a new electronic key and steal it in five to ten minutes. The accused also kept with them the equipment to break the locks of vehicles and make duplicate keys.
Rajesh Kakkar, a member of the gang, was a big buyer of stolen vehicles. Rajesh used to sell luxury cars for 15 to 20 lakh rupees and normal cars for three to seven lakh rupees. It is said that Rajesh was in contact with many gangs. Rajesh also used to get vehicles stolen on demand.
After stealing the vehicle, after going a few kilometers ahead, the first thing they used to do was change the number plate. After this they used to park it in some mall, market or other place for two to three days. By then they used to prepare fake documents of the vehicle. After this they used to sell the vehicle in other states. While leaving with the stolen vehicle, the criminals of the gang used to go ahead in a different vehicle. If the police suddenly arrived, they used to make an excuse of the car breaking down and start pretending to fix it by lying down under the car.
