Dhambulla: Indian women started with a brilliant victory in the Women's Asia Cup T20 tournament in Sri Lanka. India secured their first win of the tournament by defeating Pakistan by seven wickets in the Group A match at the Rangiri Dambulla International Stadium in Dambulla.
After winning the toss and electing to bat first, Pakistan scored 108 runs in 19.2 overs. Batting in reply, India won by the loss of three wickets in 14.1 overs. Smriti scored 45 runs off 31 balls with nine fours and was decisive in the Indian innings. Deepti Sharma, who took three wickets for Pakistan, was the man of the match. India's second match against UAE on Sunday.
Having won seven of the last eight editions, India entered the tournament in good form. The Harman Preet-led Indian team also won the tournament in Bangladesh in 2022. Earlier, Nepal won the opening match of the Asia Cup Women's T20. In the fight against UAE, they won by six wickets. Batting first, the UAE women scored only 115 runs for the loss of 8 wickets in the stipulated over. Nepal won by 118 runs for the loss of just 4 wickets in 16.1 overs.
Eight teams are competing in the Asia Cup. India, Pakistan, Nepal and UAE teams are in Group A. Bangladesh, Malaysia, Sri Lanka and Thailand are in Group B.
