United Nations. India has once again called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to commit to a time-bound negotiation on its reform. India's Ambassador to the United Nations R. Ravindra on Wednesday, in a Security Council open debate, blatantly described the manipulation of the Council's mechanisms by major countries and groups as “detrimental” to the spirit of multilateralism.
A video of Ambassador Ravindra's statement was also shared on the official 'X' account of India's Permanent Mission to the United Nations, New York, in which he can be seen articulating India's stand in clear terms on Security Council reform.
Ravindra said in the open debate of the Security Council that the primary reason for the failure of the multilateral system of the world institution is that it is still stuck in the old vision of 1945. This is clearly reflected in the composition of the Security Council. Therefore, the core of India's position on reformed multilateralism lies in the call for reform of the Security Council, which reflects contemporary realities.
Calling for recommitment to time-bound negotiations on reforms, Ambassador Ravindra said that the destruction of negotiating processes and systems by big countries or groups for their own narrow interests is very harmful to the spirit of multilateralism and should be addressed wherever necessary. During this, he also mentioned the statement of PM Narendra Modi at the G20 summit, in which he said that when the United Nations was established, the world at that time was completely different from today.
