Dambulla, July 19 (IANS) The Indian women's cricket team defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets in the Group A match of the Women's Asia Cup 2024. In this match, Pakistan won the toss and decided to bat first and India bowled out their innings for 108 runs in 19.2 overs. The Indian team achieved this target in just 14.1 overs at the loss of 3 wickets.
For India, opener Shefali Verma scored 40 runs off 29 balls and her partner, experienced Smriti Mandhana also scored 45 runs off 31 balls. However, Dayalan Hemalatha at number three got out after scoring 14 runs. After this, captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Jemima Rodriguez played unbeaten innings of 5 and 3 runs respectively to give India the victory.
For Pakistan, Syeda Arub Shah took 2 wickets for just 9 runs in 3 overs. Nashra Sandhu got 1 wicket.
Earlier during Pakistan's innings, Indian bowler Pooja Vastrakar dismissed Pakistan's openers cheaply, dismissing Gul Ferozah for 5 runs and wicketkeeper Muniba Ali for 11 runs. After this, Shreyanka Patil dismissed Alia Riaz for 6 runs. After this, Deepti Sharma's spin magic worked and she sent captain Nida Dar to the pavilion for a personal score of 8 runs.
Renuka Singh dismissed Sidra Amin and got half of Pakistan's team out for 61 runs. Renuka dismissed Iram Javed on the very next ball without even opening her account. Meanwhile, Tuba Hasan scored 22 runs off 19 balls before getting out on Deepti Sharma's ball. After this, the Indian team also dealt with the tail order quickly and got Syeda Arub Shah (2), Nashra Sandhu (0) and Sadia Iqbal (0) out. For Pakistan, Fatima Sana played an innings of 22 runs off 16 balls at the lower order.
For India, Renuka Singh, Pooja Vastrakar and Shreyanka Patil took 2 wickets each. Deepti Sharma took 3 wickets for 20 runs in four overs. Radha Yadav was the only bowler who did not get a wicket.
