New Delhi: 'Hello, dear user… This is Department of Telecommunication, to inform you that this mobile number registered in your name will be closed in next two hours. Press 9 for more information.' After receiving a call from an unknown mobile number, people are getting this type of recorded message. Most of the people not only get tensed due to such calls but also try to know the reason why their number will be blocked by pressing number nine in haste. Mobile users are getting many such calls every day. Don't panic if you also get such calls. This call is not being made by the telecom department of Indian government but these types of calls are being made by cyber thugs.
Shows fear of illegal use of SIM
According to a cyber police official, after electricity bills and gas bills, many people in Delhi-NCR are facing this new type of scam in the name of telecom department. The Government of India's DoT (Department of Telecommunications) itself has issued a warning to people against such calls. According to a cyber police officer, several cases of calls coming in the name of the telecommunication department have been reported for some time now. The recorded calls said that the mobile number would be disconnected after two hours. In some cases threats are also given that their mobile number is used in illegal activities. Be careful in such situation. The department does not make such calls. Also beware of WhatsApp calls from mobile numbers of foreign origin in which fraudsters pretend to be government officials.
Report such calls to 'Chakshu'
Actually Chakshu is an online portal of DoT i.e. Department of Telecommunication, Government of India which allows people to report cyber crime, financial fraud, identity fraud, scam calls, SMS or WhatsApp. You can complain here about messages related to bank account, wallet, SIM, gas connection, electricity connection, KYC update, sextortion. Appealing to people to be vigilant, the Department of Telecommunications says they should report any such fraud on Sanchar Saathi portal www.sancharsaathi.gov.in/sfc where the page opens with the name Chakshu. Fill your details there. Access to such information helps the department combat cybercrime and financial fraud. Also if a person has become a victim of cybercrime or financial fraud, he should report the same to cybercrime help number 1930 and www.cybercrime.gov.in.
