Surya Kumar Yadav, who is now the captain of India’s T20 team, was given this important job on Thursday. It seemed like Hardik Pandya would be the captain because he was the vice-captain for a long time under Rohit Sharma. But because Hardik has had some health problems, the people who choose the cricket team, called the BCCI selection committee, decided to pick someone else. After Surya was chosen as the new captain for the T20 games, a video from the past showed up on the internet where the new ‘captain’ was talking about how he thinks as a leader.
Star Sports posted a video on social media where Suryakumar talked about his leadership style. This video is from 2023, when Surya guided the Indian team to a 4-1 victory over Australia and a 1-1 tie with South Africa in the shortest format of the game.
In the video, he said, “I’m really enjoying this new role. I enjoy spending time with everyone, and we’ve all played together a lot, whether in franchise cricket or state cricket. So, it’s not hard to know their strengths and weaknesses. Plus, we spend a lot of time together off the field, which makes our on-field relationship very strong.”
“I believe in keeping things straightforward. I focus on processes and prefer simplicity, which is what I advise others to do as well. Don’t try to be someone you’re not,” he said.
Shubman Gill, who captained the Indian team in the recent T20 series against Zimbabwe, will be the vice-captain for the upcoming three-match T20 series against Sri Lanka, with Suryakumar Yadav as the captain.
In the meantime, Hardik Pandya, a prominent all-rounder for India who previously led the team, was not assigned the role of captain this time.
Pace bowlers Arshdeep Singh and Mohammed Siraj, along with wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, have been added to the T20I team after being rested for India’s recent trip to Zimbabwe.
India’s series in Sri Lanka begins on July 27. The tour starts with a three-game T20I series, followed by a three-game ODI series that begins on August 1.
