Today, from 22nd July, the holy month of Sawan has started. During this entire month, people worship Bholenath to please him. It is believed that whoever worships Shiva-Shankar with a true heart, Mahadev takes away his troubles. People also observe fasts on Mondays that fall during this month. Along with Monday, people observe many fasts in Sawan including Mangala Gauri, Ekadashi, Pradosh, Shiv Teras and Hariyali Teej. Fruit food is consumed on all these days.
Today, 22nd July is the first Monday of Sawan. So, if you are fasting today and you are thinking about what to prepare for dinner, then Sabudana Khichdi is a better option. It tastes very delicious and is also very easy to prepare.
Ingredients for making Sabudana Khichdi
Sabudana – 1 cup
Peanuts – 1/2 cup (roasted)
Potato – 1
Green chillies – 2-3
Curry leaves – 8-10 leaves
Cumin seeds – 1 teaspoon
Ghee – 2-3 teaspoons
Rock salt – as per taste
Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon
Coriander leaves – for garnishing
Method
To make sago, first of all you have to wash it thoroughly and soak it for five to six hours. When it swells properly, then filter the sago through a sieve and remove the excess water and leave it like this for some time, so that it dries completely.
Now heat ghee in a pan and add cumin seeds to it. When the cumin seeds start turning golden, add curry leaves and finely chopped green chilies to the pan and fry lightly. After this, add boiled chopped potatoes to the pan and fry until they turn light golden.
Finally add soaked sago and roasted peanuts and mix well. Meanwhile, add rock salt to sago as per your taste.
Now cook it on medium flame for 5-7 minutes. When the sago becomes transparent, add lemon juice to it and mix well. Now turn off the gas and put finely chopped green coriander on top of the sago.
Tips
If you want your sabudana khichdi to be made without sticking, then soak it properly and drain all the water. It will become fluffy only when it dries completely.
