After the Houthi drone attack on Tel Aviv, Israeli fighter jets bombed Yemen's Hodeidah port on 20 July and caused heavy damage to it. This was the first time in the war that has been going on for the last 8 months that Israel has directly attacked the Houthis of Yemen. About 6 people have died and 80 people have been injured in this attack. After this attack, Israel said that it has targeted the bases used for Houthi military operations. While Israeli military spokesperson Daniel Hagri said in his statement that they have attacked a dual-use (civilian supply and military) target.
The New York Times report has revealed that Israel's strike has not reduced the Yemeni Houthi's ability to attack, but targeting the Hodeidah port will affect Yemen's economy and the supply of essential goods to the citizens. A Houthi source told the New York Times that the air strikes targeted a power station as well as gas and oil depots at the port of Hodeidah. The source has not confirmed the targeting of any Houthi hideout.
Targeting Yemen's economy
After the attack, Houthi leader Sayyed Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi said that Israel had targeted Hodeidah port with the intention of weakening Yemen's economy. Addressing the people of Yemen, Sayyed al-Houthi stressed that the attack was not a 'tit for tat' but was part of a well-planned strategy to undermine the country's economic stability.

Former US Army diplomat Adam Clements, posted in Yemen, said that these Israeli attacks have caused more harm to the common Yemeni than the Houthis. Some experts believe that Israel's strike will further encourage Houthi attacks.
Hodeidah Port is the lifeline of northern Yemen
Hodeidah Port is essential for importing food, oil, gas and other goods for Yemeni citizens living in northern Yemen. According to Mohammed Albasha, a senior analyst at research firm Navanti Group, it will take a lot of money and time to rebuild the infrastructure that Israel has targeted. He estimated that the severe fuel shortage throughout northern Yemen will have a huge impact on necessities such as hospitals and vehicles.
